News

Welcome to the News page of Poynton Sports Club.

Welcome also from our new Club President Brian Hudson.

The club officers for the year 2010 / 2011 were appointed at the club AGM on Friday 15th October 2010. Unfortunately we did not receive any nominations for the position of House & Bar Chairman so this post still remains vacant. We need someone to fill this post as its important to continue the good work of Phil Bailey, our previous H & B Chairman, who has been the main driving force behind the improvements to the clubhouse. If you want to know more we have a job specification to help understand the main responsibilities of the post. If you are interested in being an officer of the club just contact either the Chairman or Secretary to discuss the role further.

The club now has a new Licence which allows more commercial use of the facilities to increase revenue through outside bookings and increased bar sales. This does not mean that the club has changed in any way...we are still a private members club and will continue to operate in the same way as we have done for many years.

You may have noticed that further security measures are being put in place around the sports club for the benefit of members & guests. Increased security lighting, improved perimeter security, CCTV system installed, SIA registered door staff employed at functions and further security measures to follow. This is in response to increasing concerns regarding non members congregating on the club grounds during the evenings. These are positive steps taken by your club officers to reduce and hopefully eliminate the increasing problems of damage to property, littering  / discarding cans, intimidation of members attending the club and more unsavoury exploits involving drink & drugs.

You may have noticed a number of correspondents on the PoyntonWeb forum suggesting that the club has closed off (public) footpaths running through the club grounds. The club has closed off a number of holes in the perimeter hedge for various reasons. These holes in the perimeter are not gateways and have, in general, been opened up / forced open, by person wishing to cross the grounds as a short cut to Park Lane and beyond. There are no defined public footpaths or rights of way through the club grounds, and indeed the club grounds are closed off once a year to protect the privacy of the club and in the past many holes in the perimeter have been closed off by ground staff and members. But this, unfortunately, is an ongoing problem and even though the club have erected fences, closed gates, filled in gaps with vegetation etc the holes still appear as people still try to use the club solely as a short cut. The only formal entrance / exit at the club is the main gate fronting London Road North.
